Separate the active members from others.

We usually come across a number of non-active members on Italki.com. While finding a language partner, it really becomes a nuisance to find the suitable member as most of them are really not active. Some people open the account and visit the site very rarely or don't visit at all, so one cannot interact easily with them.

It is my suggestion that the administration should really think about this and take necessary steps to separate active members from others. (At least "frequency of visit" should become criteria for such separation.) The members can be separated according to their last visit as a) visited 1 - 7 days before. b) visited 8-14 days before. c) visited 15 - 30 days before d) visited before 1 month or above. The most active members should be listed first in the search list or provided with different signs so that one can understand easily how active the member is without seeing their individual profiles.

Hoping for your prompt steps towards this. Regards.

            Ganesh.

i agree with Ganesh and i would suggest to delete those who last visited italki 5-6 months or 3-4 months ago, those people arent coming back for sure..

I'm not agree with you !
I'm not sign in on italki during 6 months because of my work, etc. but i send a mail to my contact to tell them.
If italki delete my account after, i will lose all about my profil !! ( i'm on the website since 2009)

If you want to delete ghost member: do it by yourself. :)

Italki would not delete an account for 6 months of inactivity - don't worry. Other websites handle this situation by sending the person an e-mail if their account has been inactive for a year. I think Italki would be well-advised to do this.

But Ganesh has an excellent thought here. What bothers me is requesting a session from a teacher who never comes to Italki.

I guess if we sort out by latest online the problem 100% aould be fixed but this feature doesn't seem to work very well dear italki support, if you could ensure that when chosing "Sort by: Latest online" could actually work 100% accurate then you would save many of us a hassle. Thanks

Thanks for the thoughts.

We're thinking of doing something like this, but more related with points and reputation.

In terms of purely active, we try to emphasize the last login date.  We don't want to block people from trying to contact people who have been gone.  We'd rather just inform them that they haven't been on the site in a long time.

In terms of teachers, we have policies to deactivate their accounts if they are not actively checking their accounts.  We'll work on improving this.
