  • Hate speech, threats
  • Scams, phishing or fraud
  • Bullying or Harassment
  • Overtly Religious or Political posts

To report abuse, you can take the following steps:

Flag the comment

If the inappropriate comment took place on an italki Answers, Notebook, or Discussions, please report the comment by clicking on "flag" this comment.

Step 1: View and click "Flag"

Step 2 : After clicking "Flag" a "Report Concern" window will pop-up.  Fill out the Report Concern form and click submit.

If the comment took place in an inbox message or on another system (like Skype), please take a screenshot and copy the text from the comment, and send it to support@italki.com.  The support team at italki will review the comment and take action.

Report the user

You should also report the user to italki support by going to the user's profile, and clicking on the "Report Concern" button on the bottom left of the user's profile page.  This also helps signal to italki support that this user is a problem. When you report abuse to us, please provide as much information as possible:

  • Link to the User’s italki Profile Page (or User ID)

  • Evidence such as messages, emails, links and/or screenshots of the inappropriate comments and posts made by the user

  • Reporting problems that happened on SKYPE - If you are engaging in a language exchange or a paid online lesson on Skype, please take screenshots.

Because of the diversity of our community, it's possible that something could be disagreeable or disturbing to you without meeting the criteria for being removed or blocked. For this reason, we also offer ways to change your privacy settings to block unwanted members from contacting you.

Avoid scams

On italki you will have the opportunity to become friends with people from all over the world.  Please remember to use your own best judgement when giving information to people you don't know.  For your own personal and financial safety we recommend never sharing information that should be kept confidential, such as your physical address and your bank account information.

You should never send any money to someone you have met on the internet.  All transactions on italki should be made in italki Credits from Student to Teacher, or between friends in gift cards of a reasonable amount.

If any italki user ever makes you feel pressured to do something you are not comfortable with, please contact us at support@italki.com immediately for assistance.
