Find a Teacher is italki's "search engine" for students looking for language teachers. Most students find their teacher on italki using "Find a Teacher".
Search filters
At the top of the page, students can filter the thousands of teachers on italki by categories like Language to learn, teachers from a specific country, other languages the teacher speaks, price, etc. Make sure your information is updated and accurate so that the filters will apply to you correctly.
Once the students have applied search filters, italki sorts the matching teachers into a list.
Search results
"Find a Teacher" results are listed is sorted according to teachers' recent activities. This means that teachers who recently logged in or were active on the site will show up higher on the list for each student.
When students see you on the list, they will see your picture, basic information, a brief introduction, and tags. Choose information that will help students quickly understand whether they are your ideal student.
Where am I on the list?
The list updates once every 10 minutes, so if you've just logged in, you might not see yourself on the list until the next update. If you don't see yourself on the list, please wait 10-15 minutes and then look again.
Note: If you are looking at the iOS app, then you will not be able to find yourself on the list, as the iOS app automatically "removes" your own profile. You will need to log out and then go to italki.com/teachers in order to view yourself on the list.
If you have set your Availability Statues to "Not looking for new students", then you will not appear on the Teacher List. Here is how to find and check your Availability Status.
When you are ready to accept new students again, you can just update your "Availability Status" to "looking for new students", and you will appear on the Teacher List again.
How do I move up the list?
In general, teachers who are more active on italki will appear higher.
Please DO NOT use any automatic page refreshers or any artificial way of exaggerating your activity on the website. This is a misrepresentation of your real activity and is considered a violation of italki teacher Code of Conduct.
Teachers that are using auto-refresh tools or are constantly refreshing will be removed from the teacher search, possibly for a week or more.
