If for some reason you are unable to make your appointed session, italki advises that you reschedule your lesson with your teacher.
However, if you wish to still continue to lesson your cancel, you can submit a cancellation request by following the steps below.
To request a lesson cancellation:
Make sure you know your teacher's cancellation or rescheduling policy.
Please check the teacher's introduction or you can find it here on your teacher's profile page. Just hover over the "Cancellation Policy (?)" question mark.
1. Navigate to the Lesson you Wish to Cancel
The easiest way to do this is to click the Lessons dropdown menu, and select "Lessons" to reach your Lesson Dashboard.
Once there - click on the lesson you wish to cancel to be brought to the lesson details page. There, you can press the Cancel Lesson button.
2. Fill in the Cancellation Request Form
After you have clicked the cancellation button, a popup will appear. You will be prompted to select a reason for why you wish to cancel the lesson, as well as have the ability to provide additional details for the other party.
Once you have filled in the necessary details, press Confirm to send a lesson cancellation request to the other party. They will have until the lesson start time to accept or decline your cancellation request.
Please be aware the lesson will not be cancelled until the other side accepts the cancellation request.
The other party has accepted my cancellation request - where is my money?
If the request is accepted by the other party, the lesson will be canceled, and the italki credits will be returned to your italki student wallet, not the bank card.
What if the Other Party Doesn't Respond?
If there is no response from the other party - the lesson cancellation request will be reverted back to the original lesson time and the lesson will proceed as scheduled. You will then have the opportunity to report a lesson problem and select a desired resolution on how to settle the issue.
The Lesson Cancellation Button isn't there, what happened?
You are only able to submit a cancellation request when there are over 24 hours before the lesson time begins. This is a courtesy provided to the other side so they have advanced warning in case you wish to cancel any lessons. The button will disappear if there is less than 24 hours before the lesson start time.
Lessons that have previously been in problem resolution and have been rescheduled are also not eligible to be cancelled - as both parties have already agreed to reschedule the lesson previously.
The other party has declined my cancellation request - what now?
Just because you send a lesson cancellation request doesn't mean that the other party is obligated to accept it. A student always has the right to reject your cancellation request if they believe it is unreasonable, or as a teacher, you feel that the cancellation request doesn't fit under your personal cancellation policies.
After a request is declined, the lesson will continue on as scheduled. Both sides will then have the opportunity to report a lesson problem after the lesson time has passed. If a resolution cannot be reached, it can then be escalated into a dispute and italki will mediate.
