Does italki share information about me with third parties?
italki provides information about you to others for credit card authorization, fraud screening services, and with agencies with whom we are legally required to cooperate.
If you use a credit card to purchase italki Credits, depending upon the purchase method, fraud verification services established by our payment processors will be invoked to validate your credit card purchase. These are standard procedures that occur in conjunction with every internet transaction regardless of the service being bought or sold.
italki may disclose personal information to the proper authorities during the investigation of fraud or illegal activity as mandated by international law.
How does italki safeguard my personal and financial information?
We work to protect the security of your information during transmission by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input. We do not ask for, collect, or store any of your financial information, and payment information is handled on our payment processing partners' websites.
It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer. Be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer.
Privacy and Safety
At italki, we take the following measures in order to maintain the privacy and safety of our users.
Your Profile Visibility
On italki, there is a social learning component to the platform. Here, students can learn with other students from around the world. If a student wishes not to be messaged by the community, they can choose to take their profile off the language partner page and to not receive “follower requests”.
Blocking Specific Users
If you do come across a user who you wish to block, you can simply click the “Block” function on italki.
We take any misconduct by teachers and students very seriously at italki. Any teacher that is reported for misconduct is removed from the italki system. Teachers value their professional reputation on italki and spend years building a reputation to attract students, and a bad reputation limits their ability to find new students and teach effectively.
