Italki, please fix the issue of only one language showing on my teacher profile. Students do not know there is a drop down menu where they have to change the language lesson and they are sending me lesson requests for the wrong language. This results in me preparing a lesson for the wrong language, and inconveniences me and the student. Please fix this, I don't want to upset potential students and waste their and my time. Please!

I am getting 5 desktop notifications for every Browser notification - and there are no teacher settings permitting them to be turned off. The only Notification settings I have are ticked for email, but they are disabled and cannot be unticked.

Well, it seems like the new wesbite starts to work more stable now, but i have a thing to be concerned about and its the switching langauges thingie.  Recently i got several messages form students who wants to learn Russian, which is totally fine because its stated in my profile i teach it as i am russian. But actually i have never really been focused on russian language and always taught English (which is now a second option in that button, because i am not native - and i dont think its fair especially consider 99 per cent of the student's feedback is about English classes not russian) As i said i have recieved a few messages for teaching Russian just in one day, so it looks like i suddenly became more attractive for Russian learners even thou...lets say i am actually not that keen on teaching Russian (that's why i was teaching english with just few russian language learnes). So even thou now i have loads of students (because they was my students before the new website and found me because it was easier to see i teach Engl too and prices etc) i am getting worried that in the nearest future i wont have english learners. (didnt have any requests for few days which is kinda unsual)

I would love to know more about concept of finding teachers and was it changed or not.

Did the overhead to keep Instant Sessions outweigh the profit made?

It was a great opportunity to help both Student and Teacher/Tutor.

    Dear Support,
There are many rules for teachers but I miss rules for students as well. Some student behavior here on the site is ...
Rules that I have in mind.
    1. When you book a class for the first time, introduce yourself, your level of language and your goals. (And this should be a *box they have to fill. I receive lesson requests from new students who don't even introduce themselves and I find almost no info about them on their profile page now. How am I to make an informed decision if this is a student I want to work with? As it is now, I have to jump into the water every time. Since I depend on my work here, I can't just decline all requests from people who lack manners. Of course, I write them a message asking for information and some answer. But, honestly, that's very basic manners missing here and I have better things to do then asking the obvious questions.
    2. Be on time.
    3. Make sure you are in a quiet place. (I had students sitting in cafes where the clatter of the dishes and cutlery and the noise of other people talking was so magnified and quite painful, especially when you endure this with headphones. In fact, it's torturous.)
    4. Refrain from unnecessary rescheduling. Respect your teacher's time.
    5. Notify your teacher ASAP if you can't attend a class. (This is not only about time but also about concern.)
    6. Please, dress for the lesson. (Yes, I've had a male student sitting bare chested in front of me...)
    7. Confirm a lesson immediately when everything went according to plan.
That's what comes to my mind for now.
    Thanks for reading this.

Bianca, I also agree + I don't see (when a new student sends me a message) what language the new student wants to learn?!? It's really the most basic thing, I have to check his/her profile if they don't write anything. It looks a little bit unprofessional to me...

We also can't see on the new student profile if this is a new student or already for some time on italki (anymore) and the last time online was also really useful, please put that back if possible.

    Indeed, Marijana!
I often receive trial lesson requests from new students who don't introduce themselves and don't tell me what language they want to learn.
It often happens that they select the wrong language, too.
There should be a better template to make sure they book a lesson for the right language, and a self-introduction should be required when booking a lesson for the first time, as Bianca suggested.

Looks like they have fixed the multiple browser notifications - thank goodness.

FYI the duplication existed before, I always got 2 identical notifications.  But recently it had changed to 5 on Chrome and 2 on Firefox.  As of this morning, 11th April, it is down to 1 on both browsers!  Hooray.  So they finally listened, even if they did not respond to my service request.

    @ Michele

If students do not provide personal data - like language level, goals - in their profile, I message them, and receiving no reply decline their requests.  I agree the software could check the profile on session application, and if empty, request it be completed.

Actually there was a response so I have libelled them! Haha

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

We have been receiving a lot of feedback for the new Teacher Website, and we are trying to consolidate some of the most common problems and find a solution.

Thank you for your patience and we hope you will provide us with more feedback to make italki better.

You can just bet they have been receiving a lot of feedback!

The new version doesn't show adequately when I am online, thus I am always offline and cannot find new students!
Also, the statistics is not visible for students, and it make s the choice more difficult for them. Because you don't give them any information!

Removing 45 and 90 is a good idea for me as it removes issues with other platforms, and most of my students don't take these options anyway.

Thanks for giving community tutors, finally, the option to have different courses, the limitation on those two 'classes' of teachers is ridiculous. As much as I understand the need for quality control, I have seen too many pros who have absolutely no degree in teaching their language. Becoming a professional teacher here should only be possible if any degree in teaching that language is there.

I also would wish I could set different prices for different students or time slots.

A bad change I have seen so far are the tiny slim availbility sliders which are a strain on the eyes and the stoic hold on the current schedule system. The I can barely see 2-3 times and have to scroll down or up a lot, which is just a strain on the eyes. And the current schedule editing is still a pain in the design-department. Other platforms do that better and it is a about time we get a proper calendar here too. Setting ranges is a pain when you need to change it almost daily.

    About Bianca's points:
I disagree. A basic manner needs to be present, yes, but asking for details is a part of the job. If someone is late or in a loud environment I will discuss it with the student, 99% it is their problem if I can't understand them due their choice of locality. Re-schedules are annoying but also a part of the job, it's Italki's job to limit the re-schedules, if I am correct it's 24h prior, I would like to have 48h for cancelation or re-schedules.

Italki, please, show the students’ names on the upcoming lessons list. Teaches remember their names, not Skype ID s. I am surprised that you even  make us tell you this...

Can you please bring back the old dashboard! I have no interest in the number of lessons that needs feedback. We already do this during the lesson! I want to see how many lessons I did so far in this month or lesson requests on the dashboard.

I think it's pretty akward that I cannot change the time if I am on the same day of the lesson. It's the second time that I would like to change, even if it's just midnight but I cannot, so I have either to accept the lesson request anyway but meet the student on a different time or set a time a day later or more. I mean, we have so many lessons so it's not always that clear how to organize everything, even on the same day, there may be the need to change something, for a lesson overlapping or conflict or whatever... especially for whom work on more than one platform. That's why i find this limit very bad for us.

Congratulations Italki in one month you managed to destroy what have been a great page. I work on multiple platforms and Im literally seeing students from Italki moving there! Teachers are reporting huge losses in their income reaching even up to 70%!

Italki are you serious? Indeed you are platform linking students and teachers, but without teachers and students you are going to crumble. Italki was my main source of income up until April. I can honestly say that I'm getting more classes elsewhere, and students are not stupid they know different platforms and they know how to find Italki teachers on them.

I don't understand your reasoning behind the Instant Tutoring removal. It makes most teachers invisible even though they have amazing profiles.

Moreover, what Itaki needs to understand is that we are not your employees. Teachers are freelancers and if they wont get a proper service from your side they will migrate to other platforms. Without teachers Italki can't exist so can we get at least some respect from you Italki? At least make a statement considering your more than crazy buissnes decisions. Don't we deserve at least a bit of respect? The reality is we are generating your income.

Why on earth do I have to sign in again when I click on a link provided in an email to me to get to THIS page and I want to comment?????

And, HOW ABOUT DISPLAYING THE CONTENT OF MESSAGES IN THE EMAIL again? YOUR NOTIFICATIONS ARE USELESS SPAM. NO NAME OF WHO SENT THE MESSAGE, NO CONTENT,...

Here we go. The first fruit of the changes in italki. I was reported ( not by the student, but by italki!) for not accepting or declining a request which eventually expired. The reality is that I responded to the request promptly, sending a message to the student and asking for some information about them, otherwise I can’t make up my mind whether to accept or decline. It took the student a while to answer. As we were corresponding the request expired. The time given for the teacher to respond to a request now is 48 hours before the lesson versus 24 in the old italki. Why? Why did you change it? If I had more time the request would probably not have expired.  I had to write to italki and they removed the report. But why do I even have to waste my time for it? Students often send requests without any information that we teachers need to prepare even for the trial lesson. So this situation may happen again with me and with the other teachers, too.

The multiple messages about me confirming the request or the lesson make no sense and are annoying.

Please remove the list of the lessons to which we need to give a feedback. I give the feedback privately after each lesson. Many teachers (if not most) do the same. Those who leave a feedback don’t need to be reminded.

The little window of time setting on the schedule page is too little and very

    inconvenient.

@Patricia. I agree completely. Ever since they launched the notice about the changes on March 28th, I've felt uneasy about sticking to one platform. Especially one that is making irrational changes that have a serious impact on the teachers and students.

The worst part about the changes is that they are very slow to update any of the major issues that teacher and students are facing.

The list of super annoying things that personally annoy me every day are:

    • Setting/changing availability with the tiny scroll window
    • Only showing 3 'required action' then having to scroll down through a list of upcoming lessons before finding the full list of 'required actions'
    • Tiny font on the right side of the page for lesson time change requests
    • Tiny font for the name of each professional lesson with large repetitive font for 'PROFESSIONAL LESSONS' above it.
    • The page refreshes about 10 seconds after you leave feedback when you are in the middle of typing your next feedback comment
    • A messaging system that is useless. I'm tired of having to scroll and search for a new message because italki doesn't say WHO sent the message in their notification email. I don't need to beat a dead horse here.
    • My YouTube video was removed thus removing my professional thumbnail. If italki allowed us to have a nice thumbnail, my intro video wouldn't be automatically generating a shot where I'm in the middle of saying something and look like an idiot now in my still video.
    • Not being able to appropriately tag professional lessons. Currently, they require you to select only one industry specialty for business lessons.

Outside of italki, I also run my own website with online courses. I'm not unfamiliar with working with programmers and a technical team.

I'm not sure what the issue is but they aren't updating really basic things (like increasing font size) that literally take a skilled programmer a couple of minutes to update. Creating a link from the button that says 'Show All' to the see all required actions is as simple as adding an anchor link to the appropriate heading on next page!

Italki, when are you going to start updating these basic functionalities that hundreds of people have complained about?

I have sent them at least 7 screen recordings demonstrating clearly several issues taking the time to explain why it doesn't work the way they have it. All I receive back every time is a canned response that they are evaluating all the feedback they are receiving.

The only change I noticed was a changed button shape and the new lesson requests are being prioritized and shown at the top of the list instead of feedback notifications.

I've never seen such a large and profitable company take so much time to update problems. I think they are giving their competitors an opportunity to take advantage of their slow adaptation and response time.

Here we are again, spending our valuable free time to report the mess that it is. All falling on deaf ears.

I can't stop wondering who they chose to work on this. It's just so completely out of touch with online reality.

HUGE time, a lesson ID / who cares about that? - My students have NAMES. The date.... when was that again???

AH, and a change request - original and new time are WHERE exactly. Ahhhhh, I see, under the useless text, same size, on the right,

I'm really, really sorry to say this but I think your developer team is *beyond words* SOUTH ...

Great Italki, apparently I'm not accepting new students since the update. I lost 50% of my income! I've never changed my status from 'Accepting Students'. Are you serious italki?

And I found about it only today after checking my teacher's profile! I find this totally unprofessional! This update is a huge disaster!!!!!!

Italki, many of my students are booking the wrong language lessons with me, please fix this drop down menu option because it isn't user friendly and it is very inconvenient for both student and teacher. A lot of students don't realize they need to select the specific language because they had already selected the language from the initial search.

Please let us use individual cancellation policies!! PLEASE!!
And display it before booking a lesson. Simple as that!
It is NOT confusing, if it's shown clearly before booking.

Now some new students are taking advantage and asking me to reschedule when they don't show up, or cancel at the last minutes.
This was not a problem when I had my own cancellation policy written nice and clear on my profile page.

I don't have time to argue with students as it takes time to convince them or make them understand how it is for teachers...

You can just create a boilerplate message for students who try this instead. I believe it is pretty standard - even in the Italki system itself - not to let anyone re-schedule or cancel in the last minute. Students who try this and have absolutely no understanding when that doesn't work are not students you want to have and they have to learn it the hard way.

1 I would suggest you change your "policy" on prices.

If I want to change my price, this should not affect the prices of old students. I am told that many teachers create a package for old students with the old price.

This is pretty akward and I think new students might resent it if they see that there are gonna pay much more.

2 You don't allow to change the time if not done before 24h. I think this is pretty incoveninet. I work on different websites and flexibility is important. SOmetimes I need to change the time even by 30 minutes but as it is I can't, so I have to agree the new time with students on skype. And it s not just me. Students many times want to change the time or date but they can't.
