Oh no no, the limit on re-schedules and cancelations are fine as they are. 12h as an option would be nice but we need some limitations, otherwise students just cancel the last minute. If a student books a lesson the student has an obligation to take it or at least pay for it. I cannot find a new student for a slot in the last minute, 12h are hard and 24 should be the minimum with 12 as an option.

In the same way, I as a teacher have the obligation to be present at that time, the same limitations of canceling and re-scheduling are also applying to me. And if I cannot make it for some reason then I have to take care of the consequences and look for a solution.

I agree with the prices though! I am teaching mostly on another platform and they to have a proper calendar and that option to change prices for single students. Italki, move your ass. The calendar is out of touch and time, for ages now. Look at your biggest competitors and see what they do make better.

Well, on another website, only the teacher is allowed to change the time whenever he wants. Students need to do that before 12 hours. ONly the teacher can decide if to move the lesson forward or backward or put off it if students don't show up. I quite like all that power :)))

I fint this option really useful for everyone. I mean, as teacher you need to be deligent and you are aware of the limits and you know that if you don't observe them you are going to get a bad feedback. I don't think it is that necessary to have limits for us. But it could help to have some flexibility, at least 12/6 hours before the lesson. It could also be useful for the student, if for some reason, he asks you to move the lessons, even just by 30 minutes.

On the prices, of course it is common sense. The way it is, means we cannot change prices, or we have to change them for everyone, or we have to create a package with the old prices for old students each time we want to change them. THat's crazy!

I'm wondering why the new teacher site is suddenly asking for my phone number in order to log in. Too many people already have that information.

I would like Italki to respond to the unreliability of recent versions of Skype by adding Zoom to Preferred IM/Chat options and by speeding up development of Italki Classroom. Skype calls disrupted by audio delays or disconnections have risen sharply since Microsoft stopped supporting version 7. In my experience: Skype 7 = 2%; Skype 8 = 50%; Skype 8.45 = 90%. I have not compared these results with fellow teachers, but my students report similar results with their other contacts on current Windows 10 computers. Connections that were reliable in Skype 7 can no longer be counted on and I have migrated several students over to Zoom. It works fine with everyone, and unlike Hangouts (which is also solid) Zoom does not require a Google account. In addition, Skype 8+ is unreliable for sound-sharing, an essential tool in some test preparation classes. I have reluctantly had to tell students that I no longer offer TOEFL preparation on Skype, but only on Zoom. That has hurt my business. It would help students understand the options available to them if they could see the Zoom logo. Thank you.

    @Mike

That's a great idea. Skype has had so many updates in the past weeks and months but nothing gets better.

I personally call that "update-mania". It's all over the place. Nothing gets better.

    @italki

Other options, like Zoom, would be great,

Also: One of the main reasons why I prefer Skype so far, is that I always have a window with my student on top of whatever window I'm looking at. I use pdf-worksheets, websites, etc. in my lessons. So, to still see the face of my student is important. This is a big issue with Google Hangouts.

Anyway, if italki are serious with their italki classroom, it needs certain basics for people to bother at all. So, unasked for, here's my list:

    - screen sharing

    - file sharing

    - small video window on top of all

    - edit function in chat

Fellow teachers, please add your ideas.

    Thank you.

    - chat and messages

Hola, sería muy bueno volver a habilitar las tutorarías instantáneas, ya que está da más oportunidad tanto para alumnos con tutores, muchas gracias.

I feel that the drop down window for available languages taught on the new teacher site really has to be changed.

Right now only one of the languages that you teach is visible. If you teach more than 1 language, it's not immediately obvious. Students might not know that they have to click on to the language that they don't want for more options. They might think that they have made a mistake because they don't see the language that they want as an option on your profile.

All languages that a teacher teachers should be visible immediately as an option that you can pick.

The new website is not fully mobile friendly.

    1- It looks very disorganized

2- You just put a picture of the student for upcoming lessons and if the student doesn't have a profile photo it's impossible to know so I have to go to the calendar.

3- THIS ONE IS A REAL PROBLEM:

When I click on the teacher settings I cannot choose settings on the dropdown. It directly goes to the first setting which is the basic info page. So I have to wait to make a change until I find a computer.

4- I can't withdraw money when I was on the phone since your page is not responsive!

I am using an Android with Nougat version and screen size is 5 inch. It's not an unusual phone but there is a lot to test before you publish the full version of the website.

    @ Tutor Dilara

A temporary solution for mobile use would be to choose the "desktop" version of an internet page, in your mobile browser's menu.

In most pages, it works if you magnify it a little, but I would recommend switching to a computer for your wallet transactions.

I have never used it but instant tutoring sounds like it was a great feature. Please could you bring it back?

Also, please could you make the lesson timings optional. I personally do not wish to do a full 60 min lesson as it seems too long, both for myself and for a student. Why are we unable to deactivate the 60 min option?

Yes, I agree with Sally on both those points.

I am now doing a fraction of the teaching that I used to because of the changes made, which looses Italki money too. The instant tutoring was great finding new students, and I liked to use the service occasionally myself.

Now, I often have no choice but to cancel 60 min requests as I'm unable to disable the option, meaning the student get annoyed and goes elsewhere, possibly giving a bad impression of your service, which is entirely avoidable and the fault of the site.

With all of this feedback being given, I ultimately do not understand why italki has removed instant tutoring. It doesn't make much sense, it gives new students the opportunity to give the website a quick try which really was what set italki apart as well as allowing people who have a hard time setting lesson times in advance an opportunity to take lessons. The instant tutoring was nothing but beneficial to all parties. Please bring the instant tutoring back.

A lot of people are now talking about the alternative website, Preply, basically the same thing as italki..

I hate to leave this site as I feel a certain loyalty for it, but I must say that this one is tempting, and I actually recognise other italki teachers on there already. So some have already made the switch!

I'm going to apply over there this evening.

    In short:

ITALKI TEACHERS - CHECK OUT PREPLY!

The website is great. BUT the mobile version is still with major difficulties which didn't exist in the previous version. I would suggest to do the mobile version the same way it was before, or put the link to return to the previous version. Thank you.

So, I was surprised that the Instant Tutor isn’t an option any longer - its the only way I really can pay for and get a teacher during my free time due to my work schedule. Please reconsider reinstating it...you mentioned improvements to this option back in March....waiting still.

I am wondering if/when teachers will be able to contribute to iTalki Articles again? It would be great to have additional opportunities to advertise our services and get to know potential students.

    Please advise.

I do not like the new 12-hour policy! Now I have to check my work page TWICE a day instead of once (which was already bad enough) when I am on vacation. These changes are really getting crazy. Please stop changing things and return Italki to the way it was two years ago!

Completely agree with Rose. I am sick and tired of the inconvenience caused by the new italki. Because of the 12 hour policy I missed two lesson requests and had to write to italki and explain twice. Both times it wasn’t my fault. The first time I responded immediately but before accepting/declining the request I wrote to the student(new)  asking about their needs and goals. As I was waiting for their answer the request expired and I was reported. Another time I missed the request because I didn’t have an access to my laptop. The new version isn’t working on the iPad and I have to use my laptop only! Really? In the world of mobile devices? The old version was very good. Why change something that works very well and spoil it? Someone here said that italki was once created by a genius but the guys who try to  it have no idea what we do here and what we need.

I do not agree with this 12 hour policy, it can put a lot of pressure on us teachers.

The 12 hour policy rule is ridiculous: for one, some of us, like myself, have other jobs outside of Italki (and will have to, as Italki consistently failed to open my teaching up to enough students so I could earn a living). Besides a lesson needs to be prepared in advance: my students deserve the best classes I can offer them, and with the 12-hour deadline and other jobs I guess this is the end of the road for me. I know you won’t care of I leave, but I’m unlikely to be here come next September if I am expected to churn out classes for students at the last second. I am not a robot. This job was supposed to be easy and for a while it was, but working for you is no longer attractive. Time to move on to a place where my need to prepare good classes and more respect for my work as the person who actually gives the classes will be understood.

In the last sentence I meant ‘more respect would be GIVEN’ it would help if when I tried to edit the page didn’t crash. Really, Italki is becoming more and more of a waste of my time: even writing on here doesn’t work properly (or work from a desktop in my case, I had to go to my mobile phone to comment on here, from a desktop it never works.).

I have mixed feelings about the upcoming change (lessons can be booked within 12 hours).

One one hand, I think it's nice to have such flexibility as a student myself. Also, it's a way for teachers to make up lost income when students cancel just outside the 24-hour time frame, since the 24-hour cancellation policy still applies: now teachers might actually get another request to make up the lost lesson. I will now happily reschedule if 24 hours notice is given, whereas before I required 36 hours to have a chance at getting another request.

On the other, I don't think teachers should be penalized when they don't respond to lesson requests sent fewer than 24 hours before. Imagine if I'm asleep, then getting stuff organized in the morning, and miss a request sent 12 hours before? This isn't because I'm lazy, but because that's not really a reasonable time frame to expect a response, especially with different time zones. I would suggest keeping the new option for students to book within 12 hours, but not penalizing teachers if the request automatically expires. In fact, I think the whole penalizing teachers for not responding to requests is a bit silly.

Guyomars reasonaing is very good. Teachers should not be penalized if they don't accept within the 12 hours. I think this will be the core of this new function working equally well for both sides.

Has anyone noticed that the announcement page that talks about this specific update does not allow comments? Who knows if italki is even hearing this feedback. Writing to support directly might be more impactful. (link: https://support.italki.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025144174-From-July-10th-2019-lessons-can-be-scheduled-12-hours-in-advance)

Personally, the 12 hour response time is terrible during vacation time or even days off. 48 hours is acceptable but 12 is rediculous.

I believe the original feedback from teachers about what they wanted was to be able to schedule lessons inside the 24 hour time frame BUT that it should be optional for those that wanted to activate it. Additionally, this option shouldn't be available for brand new students. Teachers need to have time to receive a response from new students to make sure they are a good fit before accepting.

The option for 12h bookings is fine because I lose a lot of hours because students cancel just 24h before and the slots are almost never filled.

But punishing the teachers??? Punishing the people who make money for you? Got off your rocker??? And no penalties whatsoever for students who use the system to their advantage?

Once again, italki does not have a clue of what we are doing here. And, I have offline time because I'm a human being with a life to live. I'm not a robot.

    Unbelievable.

I suggest all teachers to write directly to Italki support. Let's create a general message in which we'd state what do we think about all latest changes. Then everybody should copy it and send it directly. What do you think guys?

Hi Patricia. I sent an email to Support asking how to contact the people who is taking this decisions. The new app is a mess, and now reducing the timeframe to answer requests will be impossible to do simply because students and teachers are in different time zones. Let see if they accept to hear from teachers :/  , I will let you know what they said.
