My thoughts on the final decision on changes:

    • 45 minute and 90 minute lesson durations will not be removed.    :) :) :)

    • Instant Tutoring will be removed.                                                         :(  :(  :(

    • Individual Cancellation Policies (Optional) will be removed.           :| :|

    • All teachers will be able to customize their lesson titles.                :)

Still not totally understanding the instant tutor removal thing... Does that mean it's being removed at some point in general, or in the very near future? In addition, what is the real reason it is being removed, when so many teachers/students comment about how useful it really is?

Customizing lesson titles seems logical to me. It doesn't seem as though much will have to change for those who use informal tutoring in a different way.

I feel discouraged. :( Every time we get an "update", it's bad for team morale.

I think that the personalization of the lesson categories is a very good idea. But if I were in the Italki team, I won't remove the Instant tutoring. There are many students using this opportunity to have a conversation without booking in advance and I think that its removal would be a problem for both students and teachers/tutors who work with it. Please reconsider this update.

    Sincerely

Thank you for not removing 45-minute lessons, but removing Instant Tutoring was not a good decision, in my opinion (and not only in mine).

    • "You can switch between your teacher and student profile in Settings."

Yes, but I cannot switch back from my student profile to my teacher dashboard. There is no way to switch from beta.italki.com to teach.italki.com at the moment. I hope this will be solved soon, since it's a bit annoying.

    1. For the "INDIVIDUAL CLASS" cancellation, may this be removed?

    • For a "Package Termination" then the student is then charged the full price of the classes taken if they decide to cancel and this is a nice incentive to not terminate a package.
    • For a student to have the option to easily cancel an "INDIVIDUAL CLASS" without negative motivation, such as an extra charge if they cancel, then it makes it easier to select this option rather than simply rescheduling.
    • It is easy to not want to learn English, let's not make it easy to give in to feelings of not wanting to learn and then simply canceling.

    2. Also, may the teachers be able to accept class requests of less than 24 hours, please?

    • If one student reschedules 25 hours before their class then it is profitable to Italki and the teacher to fill the empty time slot which requires a class booking option of fewer than 24 hours, especially since Instant Tutoring is not available.

it's a shame we have no more instant tutoring. Is an excellent opportunity to have more students although in the old version it is easier for students to know what it is. There are also students who do not have time to schedule classes

Thank you for not removing 45 minutes - it is very appreciated by me and also my students (which I was told by affected students, who had been unhappy about that planned change)!!

Me, personally, I'm happy you're leaving the 45 and 90 minutes lessons, but what about addressing our other (and more important) concerns, for example, the shockingly bad messaging/notification system???!!! Looking at the new teacher website, you've clearly not addressed those issues: it still shows that I have messages, which are actually pointless notifications. What a surprise!

I am pleased to see that we were actually heard and our opinions were counted and respected.

Yet, I still cannot understand why Instant Tutoring has to be removed before any alternative is introduced. I am sure that many students are going to choose your competitors while you are coming up with a more convinient function, It just doesn't make any sense to me.

In one of the comments above I saw this and decided it´s a good idea:

"Also, may the teachers be able to accept class requests of less than 24 hours, please?"

Kill the the new interface instead of killing your business!!!! New page lost everything valuable of the classic version.

The new page have changed all the important factors that allowed teachers to standout from other teachers and to market themselves. I already noticed (like others) that:

    • lesson types - Lesson names are almost invisible, WHY ISN'T THE LESSON NAME THE MAJOR TITLE!?
    • uploaded certificates & Other students' reviews - need extra clicks to view
    • the availability info-graphic on my profile for students to see is confusing
    •  Instant tutoring is gone! I have met some of my long term students via instant tutoring, it's a good way for teachers to meet new students.

    • Community bar is gone!  Notebook, Articles, Discussions were the ways to make teachers market at least somehow in order to stand out among endless faces.

    • new version does not let us update our status as before. One way less to interact with our students
    • The Teaching Calendar shows only teaching sessions. It omits learning sessions and so is extremely inconvenient for those who like me both teach and study. i took almost 200 classes as a student on italki, if it continue being like this, i will have to find my teacher somewhere else to avoid the inconvenience of switching pages.

The new page killed the possibility for teacher to standout, it lost all the good things of the old version to make the teachers' strengthes visible to the students. With the new page now everything is hidden and needs extra clicks to view, no highlights for the advantage of a certain teacher, even if we are giving our best to standout. With the growing number of tutors on Italki and with this new interface, we have no other choice but to make price lower to compete, i believe it eventually lead to a loss to everyone

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit update: Majority of the teachers and students who commented in this post (almost 270 comments now already! all within 48 hours!! ),  all were written with tons and tons of words, i read all of them and None of the teachers nor students said even one good thing of the new site. i am sorry, to me, i have to summarize this as a "Crisis". Apparently it doesn't looks like a crisis to Italki since we haven't received any response nor explanation afterwards.

if the old site already satisfied everyone well, Why it was necessary to create the new site at all??!!   not to mention those things needs to be fixed but were ignored all the time such as Messaging system, Notification system, separated and disorganized calendar, the numerous clicks to add and delete slots, instant tutoring........ use your effort to fix those instead drag everyone to the new page, Por favor!!!!

    EXTREMELY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS ITALKI!

I have students who ONLY use instant tutoring. I rely on this EVERY day for my income. I am very disappointed that you are not keeping it, at least until this 'new and improved' whatever it is comes into place.  It is NOT cool that you are making these changes and I will seriously consider moving to another platform if you do not bring back instant tutoring or replace it with something of the like.

Like I said, I have students that RELY on instant tutoring. I will now NOT be speaking to them again because of this change you have made. They are people who have busy lives and CANNOT book lessons in advance, it is impossible for them. WHY would you take that away from them? It is not harming anyone to have this feature on italki, and makes italki very attractive to tutors, especially ones who travel, like myself, and are unsure of being in fixed locations.

Sort this out please italki. You have NOT listened to the needs and requirements of students and tutors.

Let me know when you decide to make changes for the BETTER.

I'm particularly concerned about the individual cancellation policy being removed. I think it's disrespectful for teachers to have to wait for the whole lesson time, especially since students receive notifications of the upcoming lesson.

First of all, thank you for reversing your decision concerning the removal of 45-minute and 90-minute lessons. Keeping these as an option is a wise move that will benefit students and teachers alike. I'm sure my students will be pleased to hear about this. As a student myself, I'm also relieved that the 45-minute and 90-minute lessons are here to stay. Thanks for actually listening to us on this one.

As for the rest of your announcements, it's a shame that Instant Tutoring is being disabled without any information about when the replacement alternative will be available. It's a popular, useful, and unique feature that makes Italki stand out from its competitors. Removing it before the alternative is introduced seems especially foolish to me. I think that removing individual cancellation policies is a mistake as well because it's not fair to the teachers to sit and wait the whole lesson for a student who doesn't respect your time. On the positive side, I'm looking forward to the more personalized lesson categories.

I saw a couple of people mentioning above that there should be an option for students to book in less than 24 hours in advance.

I also think this is a great idea. Especially when the student can cancel up to 24 hours in advance, it gives other students time to book in to empty slots newly created and then the teachers and italki not lose out on the money.

I know it would be great for me and my students especially when I often have limited availability in a week, and then a student suddenly cancels with 24 hours to go, I don't have opportunity to fill that empty slot and other students don't have the opportunity to learn!

Also, there is another issue. For people who give and take lessons on italki, we'll now have two separate dashboards, which is confusing. I really appreciated seeing both on the same page, as it would prevent me to forget them.

This waiting for the student is rubbish. I've just said here for half an hour, messaging a student who is meant to be in class again and again, who hasn't provided the right Skype details, who already cancelled the session once before and is online on italki and is ignoring all my messages. Yes, I'm going to to get my money, but it could take ages if she waits 3 days to dispute, then italki look at it, and it is appalling that I have been forced to sit here and put up with that.

I am now seriously considering just having a zero tolerance approach to re-book requests.

Bring back Instant Tutoring. Personally, i think this is your unbeatable competitive advantage compared to your competitors, especially when a potential student ask my recommendation between the various platforms (usually it's a no brain question until this moment). Money wise and long term strategy wise i wish you could reconsider

If Italki goes as far as to cancel Instant tutoring, please consider to add a function for teacher to list their available slots within 24 hours (also the teacher can adjust the price so that we can fully take use and control of our spare time, especially those slots between 2 scheduled classes), whoever interested can grab that slot with that specific rate.

Well, this new teacher website is just fantastic!!! I'm trying to message a student, but there is no scroll bar in order to be able to find the conversations not showing on the screen. Just stop embarrassing yourselves italki and bring back the old website, and save yourselves. It REALLY is that simple.

I don't understand for Instant tutoring, and as students and teachers can't book a class within 24 hours, it is even stupid! It gives no option for students who have a language emergency: Instant Tutoring is very useful as some students require some help just now for a test the day after or for an interview and want to train asap... or have very eclectic schedules and enjoy being able to book a class when they are free on the spot..

We are supposed to use the new website so as to manage our teacher accounts, but it seems we can still do so through italki.com. I'm utterly confused. And the message system looks exactly as chaotic as the current one, I even started to get messages from unknown users who were not allowed to contact me in the first place.

Thanks italki for updating things in order to make them better. Change is hard to get used to, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the long run. I must admit, though, that I agree with the comments regarding instant tutoring. It seems useful for both teachers and students and it's unclear why it's being removed.
