I can't imagine anyone thinking the Instant Tutoring change is a good idea.

We waited 10/15 minutes. If the student has not said anything so far we are not required to stand looking at the pc. So in the old days there was the cancellation policy, I think they should go back and let every teacher decides what to do, because even if it is legally or illegally it is what we will continue to do. We will wait for the time we think is fair and we will probably mark it as completed. They are crazy, if class is 90 minutes we'll be 90 minutes looking at nothing and counting sheep? Also they had to change the schedule with more than 24h, they should reduce to 12h

It is useless to spend more energy here, they will only do what they want. One of the tutors also opened a topic about this topic, maybe they read something and change their attitude

Thank goodness they kept the 45 and 90 minutes sessions, but as for everything else...what the hell? No instant tutoring!? What are they thinking?

I still can't believe that they removed the individual cancellation policies and they expect us to wait the entire class for a no-show and they want us to MESSAGE the no-show if we ever need to leave our computer to get a drink or stretch our legs just in case they show up! But hey,  it's all good when the student never messages us that they are not showing up even though they receive e-mail notifications of the upcoming lesson. The student has no obligations!  -_-

I guess I sound pretty negative, but I expect that we will be attracting a whole new wave of "entitled" students and we will have to put with so much more crap...which is what I wanted to avoid by NOT working for online schools and why I came to Italki.

So  Italki takes a 15% cut of our income for what now?  The whole new site is a disaster... I get that when you release new software that there are bugs, but this is ridiculous! As they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Why on earth are they launching a new site when they haven't even fixed their messaging system (seriously, why can't we star our messages and mark them as "unread" yet!?). And this new site has the same terrible messaging system!

It's sad to see that the teachers have been talking to themselves the whole day long after the update has been launched. No commentaries on the side of Italki...

It's the worst update ever. I haven't used Instant Tutoring before, but as for the Community, I'm totally frustrated. Why on earth have most of us contributed to the Articles?! Why have I been correcting the notebook entries and bothered to answer students' questions?

I see no reason to share 15% of my income for almost nothing, when I have to fight for my rights, regardless that I pay for them.

THIS IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!!! WHY REMOVE INSTANT TUTORING???? There are times that I need help, or I can only talk for a bit in between my busy schedule. I WILL COME OFF THIS SITE AND LOOK ELSEWHERE< OR PAY MY TEACHER THROUGH PAYPAL !!!!! WE help this site to be successful and make money. I've even recommended this site to students at the University, NO MORE!!!!!

There you go, I'm already being affect by the terrible new cancellation policy rules, the effects really hurt when you consider other factors. A student has just asked to re-book a class that was planned for tomorrow with 24 hours and 20 minutes notice. How am I meant to fill this slot now. Short answer, I can't! Under my own policies the student would not have been allowed to do that and would have had to pay in full for the class. I've now re-booked it and that student is getting 60 minutes of my time but only pay for 30, and I have space for one less lesson. I can't turn on instant tutoring and try to make up the lost work time and earnings. This is ridiculous. I have worked on italki for nearly 9 years and I have never been so angry at them before as I am now. I loved italki, I loved working on here. Now I'm just worried.

As a student, Instant Tutoring is really the only reason I've used this service, so this is going to dramatically cut back on my use of Italki.  Bummer.

I agree with many of my fellow teachers here in regards to the removal of Instant Tutoring, and I'm hoping that whatever is implemented in its place will make up for it.

The removal of individual cancellation policies for teachers puts us in a hard spot. As teachers, we expect our students to be punctual  and to let us know if they are going to be late for a lesson. Requiring teachers to wait until the end of the lesson for the student to show up feels more like a consequence aimed at us when the student is late or does not show up at all. I would prefer something along the lines of: if a student misses more than half of the lesson without prior notice, it should count as a missed lesson, with special consideration given to students who reach out after the lesson time has passed with an explanation as to why they missed the lesson (such as an emergency). It does not feel very practical to have teachers waiting, especially when many of us hold 60/90-minute lessons.

I've also noticed that the new calendar does not display the lesson times for each day in chronological order. It would be nice to have the lessons displayed in that order, since it will make it much easier to keep track of (for those who prefer using the calendar).

The changes are good in order to be better but in my case, all my money information dessapeared. I'm teaching lessons and my balances is always $00.00.

I'm very unhappy and worried about that unnecessary changes. I agree with other teachers about always, always, alway this changes are very bad for the teachers and students Italki community.

Please, remove that idea to do changes without a clair concept or goal.

Please, I'm waiting to repair my account.

    Thanks

I just want to add my voice. Unfortunately the platform gets progressively less user friendly with every update. Feedback from users is ignored. Count me as another unhappy teacher. I really miss the italki of 2-3 years ago.

Once again: please allow any kind of break between the lessons. The lessons might be 55 minutes long or booked with e.g. a 15 minutes break between them. Also, make it easier to organise the calendar. Most of us have lessons not only on italki, so we need to update our calendars regularly.

Secondly, please fix the messaging system. I can't see messages on the web (luckily the app still works).

Thirdly - one cancellation policy is very good. Make it clear to students.

50 mins lessons instead 60 minutes. This is a good change.

    Instant Tutoring back!

Coca Cola hasn't changed in decades because IT IS GOOD HOW IT IS!!! And people love it!

If you want to change the design, that is OK, but don't change the way the platform has been working.

FOR THE GOOD OF ALL OF US AND YOU @ITALKI SUPPORT HELP!!!!!

I think the best way to combat this nonsense is the following:

    • quit - vote with your feet if you have the financial ability to do so; continuing to fund their disrespect only allows it to go further and companies like this only care about money. If they are financially impacted by their behavior they are likely to change it. But if you outrage is only on this forum then they will give you 3 days notice next time, then 1 day and then things will change overnight and you will come to hate a platform you previously loved.
    • tip the scales - make your 60 minute lessons astronomically high and they other much reasonable
    • for example: 60 min - $50, 45 min $12, 30 min $6
    • encourage your students to bombard italki with emails
    • Be the competitor - give them a run for their money!

    Suggestions for improving system:
    - have classes be in chronological order on the calendar on the new updated site

    - consider bringing back instant tutoring

Anna  It's a disappointment now we can not correct or help the students or talk to anyone because they have ended up with the comunnity. We can not do anything, we wait for someone to schedule a class. The articles we write? Totally useless for them

Jan Oko and Fredo The part of the duration of the classes to me does not affect me, I do not know if they are "all" like me if they are "all" like you. I do not have problems with classes of 60 or even 90 minutes without breaks and sometimes I even have two and three in a row. Here in the schools the lessons are ALL of 90 minutes without breaks or 90 plus 5 minutes of break and then another 30 minutes. You can always teach only 45 minutes or exclude a few hours during the day.

    Suggestion:
teachers should wait for 15minutes for a student, unless they have communicated that they will be later than that.

This is concerning the current policy of:
    ''Waiting for a student

Teachers should wait for the student until the lesson end time.'' (source: https://support.italki.com/hc/en-us/articles/215325898)

surely you will lose money from the instant tutoring removal? 1, Most teachers charged a little more than their rate for instant tutoring, 2, I am sure there are students that exclusively use italki for the instant tutoring feature (I can think of at least 2 of my regular students that do) ? I can't see why you have removed something that isn't costing you guys money, but rather making you (and us) a little extra!
