    Hello
the order of the feedback is ridiculous. We do not want the last comments but all together to know everything we've already written about a student / teacher. Before it was perfect, we had the option "more"

    italki DO listen to us.

It must be very difficult for them to address all the many and varied issues in a way that suits all of us - all of the time. It must be quite a juggling act.

I'm making a resolution to moan at them less, and see if I can make their new ideas work for me. If not, hee hee,  I'll moan!

There have been so many comments here and they all get sent through to my email.. so my email has now decided they are spam... Yes, I thought the comments had stopped until I found 113 in my spam folder just now.

So fellow tutors and students I think it is time we decide that Italki have their own plans and they don't include many of us.  Italki has made the decision to change, and as they own the platform, that is their right.  What is obvious by their lack of replies to all the comments as they don't want or have to listen to the want or needs of their current teachers or students.  So if the site is no longer what you need or want, maybe it is just time to scale back on Italki, at least till you know for sure what the final changes are, and look elsewhere. Maybe don't give up completely on Italki yet as they may still make further changes and they may bring back Instant tutoring quicker than we think and allow us to be treated as independent professionals

But It looks like continually make comments on here is not going to change a thing as it seems they are not making any further comments at this time.

    @Sharon Ruis

Did you try to create a filter in your email?

I've been having the same issue for weeks now. I created a filter and marked "never send it to spam". Now I reaceive them, although they are marked as "potentially harmful".

    @Matt Inghram

The community pages are not accessible from the new beta.italki student page. Only via the old italki.com

@Christina     They used to come to my inbox But I think the standard mail filter decided that so many must mean they are spam.  And I'm actually pleased they stopped going to my inbox as I was starting to lose important emails in the middle of them.

I also think the topic has been talked out, as per my comment.  The Italki we knew and loved has, possibly only for a while, gone and we need to accept that and move on.  Yes, it is very distressing for many,  financially for many of the tutors, and I do feel for them, and for the students who used the instant lessons all the time for their lessons, but as we don't own the platform there is nothing we can do.  They have their own business plan/ model they want to follow.

Hi, please bring back instant tutoring. I have a full time job (medical doctor and emergency doctor) and I often cannot be sure if I am free in more than 24 hours. So please let us book instant tutoring again and lessons less than 24 hours in advance.

    Thank you!
    Kindly regards,
    Marcus from Germany

"Instant Tutoring will be removed. We are exploring ideas which can offer more convenience and flexibility to students and teachers in the future. We regret that we are disabling this feature and will keep you posted about future developments."

This feature was main competitive advantage of italki against the competition. Whoever came up with this idea must have bought shares of verbling or preply or is a paid agent thereof. The very reason why I logged in 5 min ago was this feature. I was hoping to take a class without programming 24 h in advance. No instant tutoring? Bye-bye.

I asked again when they would put again the instant or when we will at least have news. The answer was:

It's not certain yet, however I believe in the next couple weeks.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Are we going to have to wait a few weeks for them to understand that we are all losing money and students are leaving for other platforms? And even then they do not even know what they're going to do yet, is it so difficult to find programmers?

Here it what I just did: I contacted one of my usual instant tutoring teachers by Skype, paid her directly by PayPal and we had a class. Worked great, just without itailki.

Saying that to everyone italki can see, because they come to check the answers just do not respond, they can see who is yours or your teachers and can expel her from the site since it is ilegal what she made

    Hi everybody.

I'm surprised I cannot read my student's feedback on the new site. Is it possible? My student's feedbacks are crucial for me to improve my teaching.

    Bye

Before removing Instant Tutoring completely I want to suggest a change in how it works.
My suggestion is that it should have an additional feature, where the student should have the option to book a time with the teacher within the next 24 hours.

For example, if the teacher knows that he will be available in the evening of that day from 8pm to 11pm he could log into the Instant Tutoring option that allows booking within 24 hours.

    Advantage for the student:
This will make the 24 hour non-bookable time on the teacher's schedule available for booking.

    Advantage for the teacher:
This would give the teacher some lead-time before his class and make it easier for him to plan his day.

In my personal teaching I have had several students that repeatedly contact me and would like to have a class on the same day. As it is now I have to suggest that they book a "dummy time" that is 24hrs away in order to have the class.

The big disadvantage for the teacher:
The "dummy booking" reduces his availability and thereby his potential income.

I've been a student here on italki for almost seven years straight now, and from my point of view, the new italki is a complete failure. You dropped the most valuable option on this site - namely instant tutoring - which REALLY made you stand out against your competitor sites, without -any- explanation why.
Instead you are proud to introduce as a new feature, that teachers will be able to create 6(!) lesson categories per language... how impressive! That definetly must have taken your developers a lot of work ^^ I mean, really - which student cares about that? Students will look for a teacher they can personally connect to, and explain them their needs in the first lessons. For 99% of us there's simply no need for this kind of choice.

If you are really serious about removing the instant lesson feature once and for all, then, for gods sake, at least make it possible to book a lesson in less than 24h in the future. This ist the internet in 2019 - I even get my deliverys from Amazon in less than 24h

Please bring back instant tutoring, or allow students to sign up for a lesson on a shorter notice than 24 hours!

The loss of instant tutoring is terrible.  It is one of the best ways to find a teacher and try them out quickly.  This is sad.

I just want to add my voice to the many others who are pleading with italki to bring back instant tutoring!  I hope you are hearing us loud and clear. Instant tutoring is an important and useful service on this site. In addition to instant tutoring, I agree with the idea that has been proposed of allowing students to book same-day lessons (not necessarily instant, but with less than 24 hours notice) if a teacher is willing and available to teach on short notice.

Thank you for keeping 45 minute slots--those are my favorite!

Noooooooo!!!!!!!  Don't get rid of instant tutoring!!!!!!  I started using iTalki a few weeks ago because of the Instant Tutoring feature.  It was the only aspect of iTalki that I used.  I am a busy person and the best part of iTalki was being able to get some conversation practice without having to incorporate yet another appointment into my already full schedule.  I can't tell you how disappointed I was this morning when I went on the site to do my weekend chat and found out instant tutoring had been removed.  Hopefully, you'll bring it back, but in the meantime, I'll have to look into other options.  If I'm going to schedule practice, I might as well meet a local tutor in person and go out for coffee or something.  I'm so glad I didn't spend more on credits, because now I might not even be able to use the ones I have.

And while we're at it, why isn't there an option to tip the tutors?  At least, I haven't found that option anywhere on your site.  The rates are quite low, many of the tutors work very hard, and I would like to be able to give them an extra dollar or two here and there, like I would a Lyft or Uber driver.  So inconsiderate not to have that option.  You need to take better care of your people.  And if you have that option and I missed it for some reason, you should make it more obvious.

Back to the instant tutoring issue.  Getting rid of it is the worst decision.  I had been giving very positive reviews on Facebook to iTalki primarily because of that feature.  I have friends throughout the world and many had expressed interest in your site.  Now you've ruined it and I feel obligated to post on facebook that you've removed that feature and I'm not enthusiastic anymore.  I'm so very disappointed.  I can't tell you how disappointed I am.

@Gail Wise    Yes Instant tutoring has gone.  Students and Tutors were told about this a week ago.  They say they may bring it back but no one is holding their breath.

But what I wanted to comment on was your idea of tipping.. Why...Tipping is a horrible American invention designed so the employer doesn't have to pay their staff a decent wage or at all in some cases.  Thankfully it has not spread far and wide.  I even know Americans who are sick of and against tipping.   So that brings us back to the tutors.   We are all contract workers and we all set the rate we think is fair and acceptable to us.  Italki is in no way involved in setting the rate.  If you want to pay the tutor more that is up to you and you can always have that discussion with them on that matter.  But remember your teacher is a professional like any other teacher or trainer. Would you tip a trainer or teacher at a course you took at a local Brick and Mortar school or do you consider your online tutor to be on the same level as an American waitress, doorman or uber driver etc...

Sharon, thank you for opening up this dialogue!  You are right, and I certainly did not mean to offend.  For tipping, I actually had in mind the tutors based in the United States, because I noticed that they are barely charging minimum wage by California standards, whereas the tutors in Venezuela, for instance, probably do quite well at what they are charging.  So my intentions were good (make sure I pay a fair rate to whomever I am paying), but I forgot for a moment how international the platform is, so you were right to bring that to my attention.  I lived in Germany for several years, but it's been a long time now that I have, so I forgot for a moment that tipping can be offensive in many places.  Thank you and forgive me!

Oh, and P.S.  To give context, I just tip everybody I can here in the U.S..  From lawyers to restaurant workers to tutors to newspaper delivery people to Lyft drivers -- you name it.  Everybody I can.  I generally feel that most working people everywhere in this country are not being treated right.  So it's my small way of trying to help and show a little solidarity.  But you're right, it doesn't come across the same way cross-culturally.

LOL.  Thanks for the link, Sharon!  That fits me!  I understand the principle of not tipping, but I’m not going to not tip in California.  Everybody appreciates an extra dollar in the change jar here — it’s a social lubricant kind of thing.  But I will be more careful internationally and on international platforms such as this one.  Where are you from, by the way?  I was looking for a way to message you directly, but can’t figure it out, alas.  Anyway, again, thanks and take care!
