Johnathan I do not think there are sites with instant tutoring

Sorry to see that instant tutoring has been removed.  It is tough for me to schedule 24 hours in advance.  One of italki's competitors does not require 24 hour advanced scheduling (but also does not have instant tutoring).  I signed up for a trial lesson through the other site and look forward to returning to italki when Instant Tutoring becomes available again.

@Sofia  Ahhh Sofia  it was me who is against tipping and questioned  Gail Wise about suggesting that tutors should be tipped.   So please apologize for that tirade.

Instant Tutoring is the only feature I use.  Please bring it back or you are losing a customer.  I know I am not alone feeling this way about the Instant Tutoring.  Thanks.

Sharon Ruis No problem! I was just saying how would be seen here in a profession as teachers or lawyers, and so on.
Anyway, I sent a ticket. My ticket:

    Hello,

One of the biggest problems is instant tutoring. It was a great opportunity to have more students and to have classes without scheduling. Do you think they'll put that again?

    Answer: Hi Sofia,

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't have this information for now, we're just collecting feedback for review.

    ME again;

    Hello!

    Oh! What a shame!
It was a great way to have more students, now we can not have students at the moment

    Answer: Hi Sofia,

We're aware of the disappointment of many users, this is why we're collecting feedback to decide what will be done

Me: When we will have an answer?

    Answer: Hi Sofia,

It's not certain yet, however I believe in the next couple weeks.

It is a lack of respect, we should have the instant turoting until they have a definitive solution. Deleting instant tutoring is bad for everyone, for italki, for students and for teachers / tutors

My temporary solution for Instant Tutoring, hope it's helpful for many teachers here. I created a new course on my teacher's page just for instant torturing.

if any student who are interested in taking instant Mandarin/Chinese class, feel free to book this one on my teacher's page.

I have the same option, the problem with that is this students would have to search immensely and spend time looking for teachers to know first who offers and then if they are online. I do not believe that method will work.

The teacher website teach.italki.com is still full of bugs. It's still impossible to update my Teacher Profile. I always get the 'saved' popup, but then it still looks exactly the same. It's now been almost a week since we have been forced to use the teach.italki page for our teaching activities, and still the bugs haven't been fixed. Can we please have a reply from Italki as to when all the bugs will be fixed???

I'm confused by this new site? What is the purpose behind it? When I go to the teacher site I no longer see where people can search for a teacher, is that still on the old site?

Why would you remove instant tutoring? You want there to be as many classes as possible so everybody makes money (you and the teachers). That's how a business works. I don't understand why you are removing the opportunity to do classes and make less money. I always used instant tutoring to practice. Many people are busy and can't always schedule things far in advanced. Really bad decision

It seems that the majority of the responses concerning the removal of instant lessons is negative.  I share the same feeling and hope that the owners of Italki are paying attention. Perhaps they had a good reason for eliminating this option, but it certainly does not represent a company that understands a preference by their client base.  Maybe they will when a competitor steps in the fill the void that they created.

Also disappointed in the removal of instant tutoring. It was one of my favorite features and I was even considering to switching over to it entirely.

Description box for Informal tutoring doesn't work, I really need this ASAP because many students don't know the difference between professional lesson and informal tutoring

Changing the price and editing the lessons also have many issues, mostly it didn't want to save the change so I had to go to Old version website to modify my lesson -- very frustrating

The minimum price for professional lesson is also so confusing because when the first time the new web launched we could create 4 $ for 30 mins class but now the feature is gone but the 4$ price that I have created  is still shown there.

The teachers need private student's progress sheet which can be seen by both teacher and student only instead of giving feedback in feedback's box. It will ease the teachers to track the student's progress and also to see the material that the students have learned and will learn for the next lesson. Another teaching-learning online platform already used this, and italki needs to step up

Removing the Instant Tutoring feature seems a bit counter intuitive, especially for students who want to log in a certain number of lessons per week, but can't because of other unexpected life events.

    Here is what I recommend:
Bring instant tutoring back ASAP for the many teachers that wish to use it. I know that many teachers use the instant tutoring feature to find potential students who would want to take regular lessons. That's great. Personally, I think there should be a way to separate instant tutoring and regular lessons. Perhaps have a function where the teacher can choose whether or not to give that student who did an instant tutoring lesson access to the teacher's regular schedule to request lessons or if they wish to keep it so that they can only request instant tutoring when the teacher is available. Also, this would give the teacher time to discuss with the student about which times are actually available and which times are for regular students who may have weekly time slots that are saved/reserved especially for them.
Bring back the community aspect of the site (journals and editing/correcting, language and grammar-based discussions, etc). The fact that italki had both the paid lessons and free activities was a huge part of why I joined the site in the first place.
Display the highest price a teacher charges for tutoring as not to mislead students. On my profile, the price for my 60-min lessons is not shown at all and that is what I teach 98% of the time.
Show student feedback on the teacher profiles. I couldn't find mine. Perhaps it might be visible on other teachers' profiles. I'm not sure. Most of my students said that they chose me because of my high retention rate.
Consider having a native English speaker check the content on the website before it goes live. There's a link that says Any Lesson. To me, that seems awkward. I think it should just be Lessons or something like that. My status reads as: "This teacher is not accepting new student lesson request at the moment." It should be changed to: "This teacher is not accepting new requests at this time."
I'm not sure if anyone else has the same problem, but my calendar on my teacher profile looks like this (image attached). I think that should be fixed ASAP.

Many teachers and students are asking italki to bring back the Community sections. I couldn't agree more. Italki may not see the value in the Community, but it is important. Many of my students use both the paid lessons and the Community to practice. Others use the community to network with people and to find or evaluate potential tutors. Just because people are choosing to only use the Community doesn't mean that they are not adding value to the site. For instance, there was someone using the site who creates documentaries, is a published author, and is frankly brilliant and incredibly well-spoken. This person found joy in helping people to correct their writing and helping them to understand the grammar of her native language. With her hectic schedule, she was not likely to teach paid lessons. However, she inspired many people to continue learning and those people likely registered for paid lessons because of the confidence that she gave them by being present on italki. Italki just took away her ability to help students. There are probably many other examples like hers.

    Instant Tutoring Needed!

I would say all the other updates are reasonable and great, but instant tutoring is a feature that I used the most. It probably can help any other student like who have some emergency in English learning. Personally, I am looking forward that Italki can bring back the instant tutoring feature in the coming future! I would appreciate for your understanding and assistant.

As a new teacher on iTalki, I was looking forward to instant tutoring as a way to increase my lesson count on iTalki, I'm quite disheartened that this change has happened at the same time that I qualify for it. I was hoping to do a lot of work on iTalki and make a real living from it.

Miss D  To search for teachers you have to go to the student profile /site, you have to change

Teacher Status has been brought back to the old one. I can't leave any announcements to my current students on Teacher Status while I'm not looking for new students. Another trouble is that I've got a lesson request from a new student somehow. Please understand that declining a lesson request is not easy and takes extra time for teachers to communicate with them. Nothing is good for both teachers and students. Careful consideration and examination involving current users must be required in the next update.

When will we have an answer and a solution to the problem created? And do not say weeks that by now many students will have left the site and hardly come back. How long do we have to wait and how much money and students do we lose to understand that it was useful? We had more students on the instant when the instant was directly on the dashboard as on the old site and not hidden as "now". If the source of low income will be forced to explore new horizons and there no longer matters.
Removing the lesson policy is a disrespect to teachers and we will continue to use them even if it is deleted from the site. We are self-employed who use the site and pay 15% per lesson to use the site and we have the right to put in our profile our rules / conditions.

Italki site "improvements" made me to look for an alternative. I agree with Sofia. I probably will spend my credits and leave. Missing instant tutoring and community and features which made the site unique.

We are all here because we love this website and the opportunities it's opening for us. And I know you're trying to improve your website and experience, but, you're really doing it wrong.

Did you do a survey with teachers and students? Did you tested with a small set of trusted users who opt in to give you feedback?

It is disrespectful to teachers making a living out of this to suddenly change the policy. Teachers who now don't have an easy way of increasing their visibility and their income. And disrespectful to the students who put their trust and money with you. This makes we want to pay for one lesson at a time because I don't know what's coming next.

Please bring instant tutoring back, and allow us to schedule lessons less than 24 hours in advance, whenever the teacher is willing. And please next time, announce a change in advance, and collect feedback, before you implement it.
