Maybe we should all submit requests to say that we would like to have answers to all our questions...asap!

Sharon - I couldn't agree more.  While I a disappointed with the decision, I am sure that it is a business decision.  And, it does point to the difference in how customers are treated in the west versus the east.  The US used to have this model in the 1950's . . before all the advancements in understanding customer service (ala Tom Peters).  -- Bill --

I rely very heavily on instant tutoring as both teacher and student. My current lifestyle means I can only teach or learn in this environment. I have just logged on because I have decided to learn French and am incredibly disappointed that the function has been removed. Without it, I will be forced to do my learning on another website.

Many of my students would swap to their phones or tablets when they experienced internet connections, as these use less data during Voip. I chose which Voip platform to use with each student so that I can use certain features, and also depending on bandwidth.

The feedback in the classic version is much better, we can see all the classes we gave the same student by pressing only the "plus"

Hey Joni, I know how you feel. I relied on instant tutoring as well. Italki won't say why it was removed.

    Dear Italki Representatives,

you said "If you have any feedback please comment below. While we can’t reply to each comment individually, everyone’s feedback will be taken into consideration for future updates and improvements." But you didn't reply to anyone comment! and also, you didn't take all the comments about instant tutoring into the consideration for the future italki updates and improvements!

Be honest with me please, Is your customer satisfaction matters?

Seriously, do you listen to your customers?

Truthfully, do want to provide excellent customer support?

Beta! are you serious! Do you think that you know what your customer wants or do you think just about what you wants?

Remember, other and me are the most valuable part of italki business...

*****Removal of Instant Tutoring**** is fraudulent. Many folks invested based on this feature. I encourage members to report this to the authorities.

There must be a very simple reason for italki removing Instant Tutoring. Something that has to do with the authorities coming down on the company with some silly financial regulation which they aren't too happy to obey.

@ SiFi  While many of the teachers and students hate the removal of the instant tutoring feature there was nothing illegal in their action.  They own the website and can make changes to it as they wish, and without notifying either the teachers or the students, as stated in their terms and conditions that we all agreed to when we joined Italki.

@ Viacheslav (Václav)  I don't think the change had anything to do with any regulation etc I think the company may be changing direction away from what we knew it to be, which would be a great pity, and may be aiming to become more like many many other Asian owned online schools.  It would be a great pity if this was to happen especially as many of their students are not from the Asian countries and would not want to be part of the Asian type schools.  Italki had a great business formula and good platform but now they have taken one of the best parts away and the rest is full of glitches.

Nothing to do with laws. Well, they are seeing a new website with a new design.

Sharon Ruis. Your staunch defense of Italki is very peculiar. When individuals advanced money into their Italki wallet for future instant tutoring classes that was a legally binding action. Are you a lawyer?

Sofia. Yes but that's for future payment receipts. NOT to change a significant (evidenced by the massive outcry) feature offered and paid for!!!!

SiFi      I don't like what they have done but they have done nothing illegal, as others have stated.   When you joined Italki you agreed to their terms of service  https://www.italki.com/tos  and number 3 states "

    " Modification

italki reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify the Site, Application or Services or to modify these Terms, including the Service Fees, at any time and without prior notice. If we modify these Terms, we will either post the modification on the Site or the Application or otherwise provide you with notice of the modification. We will also update the "Last Updated" date at the top of these Terms. By continuing to access or use the Site, Application or Services after we have posted a modification on the Site or via the Application or have provided you with notice of a modification, you are indicating that you agree to be bound by the modified Terms. If the modified Terms are not acceptable to you, your only recourse is to cease using the Site, Application and Services. "

So they offered you the use of their site on the condition that you accept their terms. When you signed up you accepted their terms.   They offered, you accepted so a contract was formed based on their terms.

You joined up to have access to and to use the site.  There was nothing stipulated that you were only going to use instant tutoring and the site didn't restrict you to instant tutoring.  That was only one part of the site. By removing that ( and yes we all hate that they have done that) they have not broken any agreement with you as you can still use the site, have lessons, etc.

It is very wrong decision to cancel instant tutoring. In my opinion of course.

And what are the real reasons for this?

What can I say? Sinse your "improvements" I have not taken even 5 classes. Usually I took twice that each week. Good job! The only reason I am showing up stll is I'm hoping one day you will fire whoever it was who came up with this idiotic idea and revert the changes.

Sharon Ruis, you are completely right. They have done nothing illegal. Just the same it is not illegal shoot youself in the foot. Or in the head.

Dmitry    You are making the assumption that they don't know what they are doing.  They are a large Chinese company with connections to other large Chinese online education companies, they will know what they are doing and have their own business plan which they are working towards.   The only ones they are shooting in the foot etc are the teachers and students but maybe they expect some collateral damage.  Their world revolves around their needs and plans not ours or the current student base.   Don't assume they are stupid businesspeople.

Ok...let me break it down a bit to all you legal scholars: Suppose I paid $500 into my "wallet" then Italki announces no more classes except for say 3 hour classes with a 3 month pre-order. Would that be legal? You see its the principle here that you are clearly missing.

Individuals that depended on Instant Tutoring have been negatively impacted severely and advanced funds on the basis of then existing advertised services.

Our only option is to vote with our pocketbook, which is what I am doing.  Whether they care or not, I will not spend any money at italki ever again until they implement an instant tutoring program.  I used to tell fellow students about italki, too, but now I tell them about Preply and Verbling (both of which I've spent money at since this announcement), and if I mention italki at all, it's to let them know how awful my experience has ended here, and how unresponsive they are to their teachers, tutors and students.

Vote with your $$ and your social media presence.

Like others, following the truly idiotic decision to remove the Instant Tutoring facility, I've decided to spend my money elsewhere.

Goodness knows how much I've spent with italki over the years, but from now on it will be spent on other, better sites.

Yes it would be nice to have some suggestion about better sites to do instant tutoring alike.

Wierd that Italki management is so unable to read our comments, should we write it in chineese?

    that's google translate traduction:

    是的,有一些关于更好的网站进行即时辅导的建议会很好。
    很奇怪Italki管理层如此无法阅读我们的评论,我们应该用中文写吗?

Someone ( think it was Sofia but now I cannot find this comment of hers) mentioned that it was still possible to use Instant Tutoring in the "classic" version of iTalki. I logged in and at the top I see a banner inviting me to "try the new iTalki" version (which seems to suggest I'm in "classic") and yet I still can't see the Instant Tutoring option. Is it truly gone or is there some backdoor way to still access Classic. I would like to spend down the money in my account using Instant Tutoring (which is basically the only way I used iTalki!!).

Also - anyone have any good alternative sites that have the equivalent of instant tutoring? I checked Verbling and they don't appear to have something like that.

Tobi.  Instant tutoring hasn't been available since the 2nd of April.   For a very short time on that day, it was available on the old site but not on the new site then it was removed from the old site as well.  So instant tutoring hasn't been available for  7 weeks.

On verbling they do have a book at short notice.booking, not really instant tutoring but still an option.

I'm VERY sad about the instant lessons.  I really enjoyed doing those when I had unexpected free time on my hands.  It was nice just to talk with people in different countries.  It was very helpful to keep up my conversation skills.  Maybe you should bring it back but call it "just talking"  and have it be just for practicing conversations.  I have some language partners but I always feel bad making them listen to my slow Spanish.  I don't feel bad when I paying someone to listen to it lol.  PLEASE bring it back.

I'm unhappy with the decision to remove instant tutoring. It was a helpful feature and I wish it would be returned by the next announcement.
