    I got a response from support when I asked for a public statement from italki.

    "Now our new site is just a beta version, our product team will optimize our website base on all of our user's feedback, then they will solve your problem, so please wait with patience."

    When I responded that this doesn't answer my question, that people have been waiting for 2 months, and that beta versions are meant for a small set of users who opt in, their answer was:

    "I have reported your feedback to our product team, they will consider your suggestion. Thank you!"


    So as Craig mentioned, their indifference or lack of response to our questions leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    So Christina.. do you think they are studiously reading all our comments and feedback so the 'product team' will put in place what the students and teachers have asked for or do you think that reply their reply could be translated into a two-word phrase the last word of which would be  off.:)    

    I agree, their lack of updating both the students and the tutors indicates that we are not an important part of their new business plan.

    So now they are asking us to have all our categories and tag up to date by 5th of  June, as they are going to have the student site go live them. BUT there are still so many problems on the teacher's side that have yet to be sorted.  Since they did their update I haven't been able to same any edits to my lessons so it is impossible for me to comply.  I have already sent support two requests on this but nothing was done. Sent a 3rd request today.

    Sharon Ruis  First add Tags was already possible in the classic version and I believe that if we already have TAGS we do not need to add them.
    Then I do not know what your problem is, because I can edit lessons.

    Craig Papworth I do not know another site with instant tutoring. Preply is horrible for teachers because of commissions.

    One thing that deeply intrudes on me is the order of the comments, it was much easier when we just had to "press" more and we saw the whole feedback of the student

    I can edit my private lessons, but despite changing informal tutoring to conversation practice only several times and it saying it is saved, it still shows as informal tutoring on my profile.

    But in the classic site, you can not edit the settings since there is Beta.
    You can only accept classes and go to the calendar, etc. You can not go to the settings.

    I think mine appears in "active" because of the type of TAGS. I put General. Oh, to access your money, you also only get if you go to BETA website.

    Sofia   I have no problem with getting a pay out..  requested one yesterday and do that twice a month.

     

    Whatever I do on the lesson plan the bar doesn't appear active.   Even if I write a completely new lesson plan I can not save it.

    Why can't I choose more than 3 tags/specialities for my lessons?

    1) I offer exam preparation lessons and I focus on preparing students for the IELTS test or Cambridge exams (CPE, CAE, FCE, PET and KET). 

    However, the Cambridge exams are listed as separate tags, so the total number of tags I need to choose is 6, which means that I have to create two separate types of lessons and assign 3 tags to each type!



    2) The same problem applies to the category "general", why do I have to choose 3 tags even though I teach all of them?

    The tags listed are pronunciation, grammar, spelling, reading, listening, and writing, so somehow, the person who created the list doesn't think that vocabulary, functional language and speaking are essential aspects of general English lessons.



    3) Business English lessons are even more problematic, as I have to choose a sole "industry group", but I believe I should be able to choose several "industry groups" based on my professional and teaching experience. 

    To be more specific, I have a BSc in electrical and power engIneering, so I used to work as an engineer and I am very familiar with engineering, construction, manufacturing, energy, technology, telecommunications and IT. Moreover, I spent many years working in a range of different fields before becoming a teacher, so I have experience in administration, customer service, sales, marketing, logistics, transportation and tourism. 

    I even have experience teaching ESP (English for specific purposes) to students who work in most of these fields, so why do I have to choose one "industry group"?



    4) Also, why can't I choose more than 3 specialities even though I have experience teaching the 6 specialities listed under the category "business"?

    And why are they 6 specialities?

    I mean, business English can be divided into more "specialities", so why did you limit it to meeting, presentation, job interview, negotiation, business etiquette and industry terminology. For example, you could have added intercultural communication, telephoning and technical writing.



    5) Why isn't EAP (English for academic purposes) listed as a separate category?

    Getting rid of instant tutoring was a really bad idea!! This makes me want to use other platforms to learn a language now. Instant tutoring is the advantage that Italki had over other sites.

    @ Gad. I suggest writing to Italki directly Gad. I don't think they bother looking on here any more. I've just asked them the same question you have. I can't wait to see what they come up with as an excuse this time!

    Are there any updates on the return of Instant Tutoring? My income has taken a massive hit since it was removed. I could rely on one sometimes two Instant Tutoring requests daily but without the feature it's been impossible to reach my earnings from previous years/months.

    Sorry to hear this @Ismail :( that's exactly what I've been telling italki and the answer is usually "We're looking at feedback. Wait with patience." Which is basically completely disregarding feedback (and shooting yourself and your users in the foot).

    Could you contact the technical support directly? They usually answer pretty fast and might have a more concrete answer to you since you're a teacher (I'm a student, and one of the teachers I really like taking lessons with is someone I wouldn't have met without instant tutoring).

    @Christina I've been asking for months. It's a real shame because I haven't had a new student in months. Before I would get new students almost daily.

    Hi, I was wondering if you have any news regarding reinstating Instant Tutoring? Living in a country with a time zone different to the rest of the world, as well as working a job with unpredictable hours, makes it quite hard to arrange and hold a fixed lesson time. Instant Tutoring was very useful to me and many others. Please bring it back!

    There was maintenance, but apparently everything is still the same. There are students leaving the site for others who have instant tutoring.
    The other day my student asked if I was available for instant tutoring.

    It’s such a shame... even with limited availability I had regular and new students thanks to instant tutoring. Now I have no students and haven’t taught a class in months.

    Month 7 with No New Students.

    Fortunately I have moved on and am teaching elsewhere but iTalki's handling of the removal of Instant Tutoring is abhorrent.

    Hi italki friends!

     

    I used to use Instant Tutoring to supplement my income. I'd still love for it to return. I've been working full-time at my shop where I make jewelry and clothing.
