    I'm glad that iTalki decided to keep the 45 and 90-minute lessons but I was confused and disappointed when iTalki mentioned about removing instant tutoring. Why do they want to remove this interesting feature? I want to know when exactly would they be removing it. Would they be removing it temporarily or permanently? The announcement is vague. 

    I really hope that iTalki would change its mind because it would be unfair for students to be robbed off an opportunity to take lessons right away or to take lessons whenever they're only available. iTalki would always say, 'They should book a lesson if they really want to learn' but not all students are sure of their schedule and that's why they're relying on instant tutoring. It's a shame that they would not be able to do this in the future...

    Alex I just wait that my student told me he was going to be late. If nobody warns me I just wait 10 min.

    I had two students alone tell me yesterday that they will be leaving Italki because they can no longer do instant tutoring.  They both only use instant tutoring so no point in hanging around waiting for Italki to decide when or if they put a new option in place.   They will lose a lot of students because of their decision but maybe they are don't want these (paying) students.

    Julie In the classic version there is still instant tutoring. You have to tell your students to use the classic version. I liked it more when appeared directly in dashboard. The problem will be the new students who will not know

    I'm glad they did not remove lessons for 30, 45 and 90 minutes. Many of us can not handle classes more than 45 minutes. 30 min or 45 min for a conversation class is great. For those who enjoy intense classes 90 minutes is also good.

    Well, I suppose it's good that the 45 minute and 90 minute are staying however it's ridiculous that Instant Tutoring is being removed.

     

    The one thing that I hate the most though, and I'm going to keep banging on about this until it changes, is the removal of individual cancellation policies and a specific focus on waiting the entire lesson. I said it before but since iTalki don't seem to be listening, I'll say it again. WE ARE NOT YOUR EMPLOYEES. We are third-party contractors, all of whom are professional teachers, and we use this platform to host our classes for the conveniences and we pay a fee to do that. You can say all you like about waiting for the entire lesson period but you are not our employer. You are a website that hosts professionals and charges a 15% fee to do that. If you want to be an online language learning school then you need to hire employees, offer them benefits, and pay their taxes for them. Since you don't do this, you are limited in what you can force us to do.

     

    I will be looking for other websites to teach from, which is disappointing as I've enjoyed my two years on iTalki to this point, but the sheer level of disrespect and deafness that is directed at us is appalling. You seem to be under the mistaken understanding that by treating your teachers like products to do with what you will is a good business model. It's not. The language community is large but a close one and how long do you think your business will be kept afloat when word gets around that iTalki reneges on its contract and tries to force freelancers into unethical positions?

     

    Rethink the waiting time, rethink the cancellation policies, and rethink your approach to how you operate your business. The students might be paying for the classes but without the professional teachers on here, you have no business at all.

    I do not see why we can not continue to divide the wallets as they are now. I also do not understand why you will change the part of the site of the student and teacher and not let the system as it is now

    Sofia   The students were also informed that instant tutoring was finishing on the 2nd ( 2 students told me they had received information about this)  so, most likely,  they will no longer come to the site to look for it.  No point in using the old site and being on instant messaging if the students coming to the site can not see it.

    Carmine We can already customize the classes, It will be good for the tutors to be able to do this and we can give 6 courses per class and not 5.

    Andrew B Yes! I have complained several times about the notifications. Before it was easy, I do not need a notification every hour or half an hour about the classes that I will have. If it's a day when I'm going to teach 6 classes, I'm always getting messages. I think msg /notification it is something important and it is always telling me the time left for the classes and I have already lost messages, I receive so many notification that I think it is the time left for the next class and not and not an important message.

    Sharon Ruis I still use the classic version because I do not like the beta. Then students who only take classes in instant tutoring will use the classic version. One of the students that I remember had more than 200 classes all in instant tutoring, he will not use the beta. If there are students who only like these kinds of classes or prefer because of the schedule, they will have to switch to the classic version that remains available. I'm in the classic and I see the option to stay on. They really should not end it. There are days we are online doing other things and no classes booked and we can turn on instant tutoring. I just think it used to be easier for students to search for the instant than now. Whenever there is an update there is something that gets worse and they give the excuse of IT IS A QUESTION OF HABIT. It is not a question of habit if change is a bad thing

    Alex I totally agree with you, sometimes I have classes when I need or there are challenges and having two platforms will complicate a little my situation and everyone in the same position as me.

    Jenny Davies I can not agree more with you. I agree to 100%, without customers there is no business and without sellers and satisfied customers there is a total break that difficult to recover. Sometimes I find a total lack of respect for teachers. Already happened to me a student not accepting my request on skype, having to change platform and instead of giving 60 min I gave 45 min of class. It was not my fault and I had lessons to follow. The student wanted to cancel the package because he complained that the class was 60 minutes, I told him that everything was fine for me, but I decided to cancel the agreement because the amount he requested was lower than what was supposed to be. In other words, in the message he sent me, I said that I agreed to cancel, but then I put it into a dispatch lesson because he lowered the price. The italki gave the student reason because I said I agreed to cancel the package. I said I agreed to cancel, but but I never said that I agreed with the price if I had agreed I would not have put it in "dispute" and I would not have provided so much proofs. Sometimes it seems they only do what they want and they do not hear/listen our opinions.

    They won´t keep the 2  programs going for long.  The old site will vanish and of course, they may disable the instant function on that.  Also, as I said the students were told it was going so why should they go to the site in the first place.  They have known for months that they were getting rid of instant messaging.  Months ago when we were asked to check out the new platform we noticed then that there was no instant messaging button.  They were asked about it at the time but they said nothing.

    Sharon Ruis I do not know if they will, since the beta is only for students and there will be two sites one for student and other site for teachers. 

     

     

    In the beta there is also no part of the community: Notebooks, discussions and questions have disappeared.

    Ended the articles in the beta and in the classic we can't send more articles

    Sofia.. Check now  Instant tutoring GONE.    as have a lot of students and a lot of income for the tutors.

    Instant tutoring's also gone for me now, and I think that iTalki is already regressing because they keep on making unnecessary changes

    Ariana Zialcita   Regres or morph into just another Chinese online school.   They don't realize that most of their students are not Chinese and they have different expectations.

    I've just looked at the new site and apart from being able to make categories for my lessons now, I see no changes of any real substance. It's all just a pretty new layout. There is no change to the messaging system, the calendar has not changed and is still a pain to modify and to inflexible. I see no benefit to these changes at all other than programmers getting to practice new layouts. If this new site is meant to be improved and make life better for users, italki have failed. This new site just feels like a cover for the real changes, making teachers lives more difficult and forcing us to accept regulations on our business that no self-employed person should have dictated to them. Yes I'm talking about this new waiting policy. I really feel like an employee now. It is no longer my business, it is italki's. Who is doing my taxes? Do I get holiday pay?  Very disappointed. I feel really let down by italki, we have not been listened to at all.  I'm also very concerned about my business future on italki, as instant tutoring was so important, and I feel like I will have to implement practices like zero-tolerance on re-booking too now which is bad for my business

    And how about the Community bar (either in a student's or in a teacher's mode) in a new beta version? Notebook, Articles, Discussions were the ways to make students, yourself market at least somehow in order to stand out among endless faces / hourly rates in the teacher search, and moreover, it has been a tool for those students who cannot afford payed lessons but would like to get, let us say, some free corrections. Maybe, it is me who has not found this Community tab in a new version, but a general impression of that version is that it is extremely messy and bland
