Dear Teachers,
We hosted our very 1st English webinar for italki teachers on Thursday 28th May from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM (GMT+0). The topic of discussion was “Best Practices: How to Retain Students”.
Here is the recording of the webinar. Please let us know what you think of the webinar in Teacher Forum.

I think this is a great idea! I'm very much looking forward to this and also to lots more webinars like this! Many thanks to the organisers! I really appreciate your work! ^^
Why is there a limit of 100 viewers? I just opened this post 1.5 hours after it went live, and I can't join now...
Not all students s h o u l d be retained. Some come for the long haul, some need a short stimulus, some just need someone to talk to for one, two or three sessions. You cannot retain all students: it would be a nightmare. Perhaps deep down, we are offering a spiritual, educational, charitable, service - perhaps especially in these recent days. I am hopeful now that this virus can reboot and over-turn our ways of doing things; and allow a new philosophy of life to emerge. Well done, of course, teaching can create a good financial result; but the more international it becomes, the more does it seem a privilege to be participating! It's a great new experiment we should not take for granted. . . ! Quite often, the students are way more intelligent than the teacher. Or at last that has been my experience. In any case they are as, or perhaps almost even more valuable than, the teacher because they pay our fees and keep the initiative afloat. Let them stay or remain: they will soon decide, and there are always thousands more off-stage. It seems to me that each good lesson done is a kind of triumph, and has some quantum effect, somewhere; and yet that each new lesson can be twice as good as all previous ones thrown together. There is no simple causatory mechanism going on here: even when succeeding, one can remain unsure of the secret of success. Obviously, one welcomes all insights, and this is a good development from which new ideas will doubtless flow. . .
I agree with Douglas, more spaces for the webinar please!
First things first, you should ANNOUNCE available seating 💺 AHEAD OF TIME.
Then you should set A FUTURE DATE AND TIME for booking.
We all live in different time zones world wide. Give people a fair opportunity to make a choice.
And second, how are you deciding who are the experts - the speakers? What are the qualifications of these speakers and their experiences?
Great idea.., arrange this type of webinars to share the knowledge and ideas among italki teachers ..and give chances to more teachers..why there is a limit for 100 only?
Hi all
I also opened the link when I got the message notification via my Gmail, only to find it was already fully booked. For that reason, I clicked the NO box above. Having only 100 spaces seems very little considering the number of teachers on the platform, or is this only for the English teachers? I know it says English in the first sentence, but I'm not sure. Maybe they can have repeat slots to give others an opportunity to hear what they have to say as well.
This kind of initiative has the seeds of a new way of educating us all. Each in turn does something; and then there is a kind of conference among peers. I guess the softwares for webinars have practical limits on 'attendance'. I think the word 'English' refers to the medium of instruction rather than the language taught. It is important to realize that there is a huge difference between teaching English in English; and teaching any other language, again - presumably - in English. One is kind of the target language and the other, the 'carrier' language. But there are maybe out there teachers using different combinations of carrier and target. Fascinating. Just keep all options open: dare to dream.
Gran iniciativa, pero sería excelente que haya el mismo seminario Web en ESPAÑOL y que no solo sean 100 cupos disponibles ya que seguro somos muchísimo más los interesados.
Saludos,
This is a great idea! I hope there will be more offerings like this in the future. Thank you. :)
Is this webinar going to be recorded? I couldn't get a spot so please record it so the rest of the teacher can still have the chance to watch it ;)
Yes, please record the webinar and make it available to those of us who could not get a spot on the live webinar.
This is a very good learning opportunity for us.If we had not got the study opportunity this time,I hope to have the opportunity to participate in next time.As a new teacher ,this kind of learning is very much needed.
A iniciativa é super interessante, porém o estranho é a notificação com as 100 vagas ja preenchidas.
Dear all,
We have moved the webinar to YouTube livestreaming so that more teachers can join. Please click below link to join.

cuold you provide videos to watch?
Yes, but this needs some analysis: who is teaching what language in which carrier language? The teaching of English is in a way more complex because it relies on a certain quantum of already instated English in the student. More exotic languages can be taught from scratch. But I am interested to know which carrier languages teachers use in such situations. Without knowing this and without splitting up the fields involved eg English from Natives, English from non-Natives, Other Languages taught through English, Other Languages taught through other languages, it's hard to arrive at more than 'feel-good' conclusions. And the lack of feedback from the givers of the Webinar implies a lack of follow-through and deep thinking about all these matters. . .
Hello, good morning forma every body i think these ideas about the teaching any language área very important to all teachers. I think that each language has it's characteristics, and of course the teacher should use them according to it.anyway,it Is vey interesting for me toca learn and use the all ways of how to get good resulta interesante this world of teaching a Newl language. Thank you italki for your invitación. Bye
