Yes, thank you very much.
That's amazing!
Thanks! Students always ask for this, so that’s great!
This is excellent news indeed. Thank you, ITALKI team!
The only thing: sharing Personal ID like this may not be comfortable for some.
Do you know if there is a way to create a separate room for classes please?
Excelente noticia!
It would be better if italki can create a room for the teacher and student on zoom instead of using teachers’ own ID😄
Wow,this tool is really good, I use it for a while, excellent, I always recommend it to my students! Thanks!
Fantastically detailed, thanks for sharing.
Thank you italki.
Awesome 😎 although sharing our personal zoom ID is a bit too much 😃😃
Why on earth do we need to use our personal ID? That would mean everyone can just log in when I'm chatting with friends. I would love to use Zoom but not under these conditions.
EDIT: I see people asking for a link per student. I don't know how that will work, but I just made one link called "Italki lesson" which I use for all students. I can't see why I'm not able to use that one?
I use a recurring meeting for this, like Pepita. For security reasons, I never share my personal ID. If you activate the waiting room, the next student waits there until you allow him in.
I thought without a subscription you can only use Zoom for 45 minutes? Is it only for groups of 3 or more?!
Petra Only when you're with 3 or more :).
I have a subscription since March last year. It is worth the money in my opinion. I've been using the same link for all my students for months. They find it very useful. No hassle with new links for every lesson. If a student logs in a little earlier, he will remain in the waiting room until the previous student has left. This does not work with the free version, because sometimes 3 people could be connected at the same time and then the limitation of 40 minutes kicks in.
This is great news! Thank you, Italki :)
A good move!
I've been using the free version of Zoom for a while and given my personal meeting details out to a few students. However, I'm going to change to an 'Italki students' meeting, set as a recurring meeting, rather than give out my personal meeting details on the website. This can be accessed at any time although I'll enable the waiting room.
A question: Does anyone know, if you are in a meeting with a student, and another joins the waiting room, will that count as 3 attendees, and trigger a 40 minute limit? I'm hoping that someone in the waiting room won't count towards the attendee numbers. Some students like to check in early to check its working so this could be an issue if the original meeting gets timed out!
Thanks!
There ought to be a way of listing Zoom as a Communication Tool with just a link without providing the PMID number and password.
@AnselSimpson
There is a simple way to do that. I created a recurring meeting for all my classes and activated the waiting room. On italki I give the meeting ID for this meeting instead of my personal ID. If the next student is early, he/she waits in the waiting room until I let him/her in. Hope this helps.
Thanks! Just looked at my Zoom dashboard, is that option available on the free version of Zoom?
Yes, it is.

I'm not quite sure if a third party in the waiting room will activate the time limit of 40 minutes, though.
You may want to try this first. If it is the case there might be ways to get around that, like closing the meeting in between students for example (instead of using the waiting room).
I bought the pro version of zoom about a year ago and haven't regretted it at all.
Thanks for replying, I was just wondering as I have a student who likes to test the link a few hours before, so he would enter the waiting room and if I was in the same meeting link with another student I wondered if this would set the limit to 40 minutes. Either way, I wouldn't admit him just in case! : )
I understand that if the meeting times out you can just re-enter and the 40 minutes starts again though. The free version seems to be fine so far and I've been using it for 5 months.
I'm not sure if the time limit is set as soon as a third person enters the waiting room or after they are given admission to your class. It is best to test that in advance. You will be notified when that happens.
My friends, who are also using the free version (no teachers), usually close the Zoom session after 40 minutes. 5 minutes later they start Zoom again using the same link.
I like the waiting room because new students can test the link, like you said.
Checked the free version and it appears that I cannot create a dedicated separate link from my personal meeting room. On the paid version it seems that I can create a dedicated recurring meeting link. I can use the waiting room feature on the free version though.
Thanks for the time you're taking to respond!
Hi, I have my first lesson scheduled for tomorrow on Zoom, but I do not understand how I as a teacher can access the Zoom classroom? Could someone give me an advice? I teach with an IPad, if it makes a difference.
Hi, I answered my own question. I normally access Zoom only via the App on my IPad, now I understand I will have to first go to the web application and via Personal Room I can launch the meeting from there.
