How does italki charge a commission？

Creating a profile, applying to become a teacher, and setting your courses and availability calendar are all completely free.

When a lesson or package is completed, italki charges a 15% commission fee based on the teacher's listed lesson price.

Please note:

1. italki does not charge a commission fee for trial lessons.
2. italki commission figure is rounded up.
3. italki does not charge any commission or fee for withdrawing your italki credits (except express withdrawal). Depending on your choice of payment method, these payment methods will charge different fees. (Read more about payment methods and fees)

*When a student purchases a Lesson Package, italki receives the total amount of italki credits for that package, not the teacher.

After each completed lesson, the teacher will receive an average package price (total package price divided by the number of lessons), italki's 15% fee will be withheld and only paid to italki when all lessons have been completed. This will appear as a transaction in your finance account.

When the package is completed, the teacher will receive the same lesson price as before, plus the full amount of the italki commission for the whole Lesson Package. This is why the final lesson transaction looks more than usual.

After that, the total italki Lesson Package commission will be deducted (15% of the total package price). In the case of “partial” italki Credits, the italki commission will be rounded up to the nearest whole number.

Example

A student buys a Lesson Package containing 10 lessons for $100 in italki Credits.

For each completed lesson, the teacher will receive $8.50 italki Credits (The average cost of 1 lesson is $10.00 in italki Credits, and the teacher receives 85% of this).

After completion of the last lesson, the teacher will receive $23.50 italki Credits ($8.50 italki Credits for the last lesson + $15.00 italki Credits for the total italki commission = $23.50 italki Credits).

Lastly, italki will deduct the $15.00 italki Credits commission.
