1.1 What is a lesson request window?
Your lesson request window is the minimum advance notice students must give when requesting a lesson. For example, with a 2-hour window, a student can request a 4 pm lesson until 2 pm.
Students can only request times you’ve opened on your calendar, so keep your availability up to date.
You can set separate windows for:
- Current students: students who have completed at least one lesson with you.
- New students: everyone else, including students who have messaged you or requested a lesson but haven’t completed one.
| Booking type | Available windows |
|---|---|
| Short-notice | 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours |
| Regular | 6 hours, 12 hours (default), 24 hours |
If Allow lesson requests from is set to Current students, only their window applies. If it’s set to Nobody, students can’t request lessons.
1.2 How do I set my lesson request windows?
On the web
Go to Teacher Settings → Lessons and Availability → Availability Settings → Lesson Requests. Set a window for new students and a window for current students.
In the app
Go to Me → Teacher Settings → Lesson Request Window. Select a student type, choose a window and tap Save.
Use app version 4.42 or later to access all options and set separate windows. Older versions only offer 2, 6 and 12 hours, and saving a window applies it to both student types.
2.1 What is short-notice booking?
A window of 15 minutes to 2 hours is short-notice booking. It lets students request a lesson with as little as 15 minutes' notice. These are normal lesson requests — any lesson type you offer, at your own prices — and you accept them like any other request, or let Auto-accept do it for you.
2.2 How do I manage short-notice booking?
Use the Short-notice booking card on your dashboard to see which students it applies to, your current window, and your earliest bookable time.
Select 15 min, 30 min, 1 h, 2 h, or Turn off. Your selection applies to both new and current students. If they already have different short-notice windows, switch between student types on the card to update each separately. To set different windows or change a regular window, use Availability Settings.
If the card shows No bookable time on your calendar, open more availability in the next few hours. If lesson requests are set to Nobody, allow requests first.
Automatic turn-off: Short-notice booking turns off after 3 consecutive hours offline, or if a request expires while you’re offline. Your most recent regular window applies again, defaulting to 12 hours if you’ve never set one. You’ll be notified and can turn it back on from your dashboard.
*Regular windows never change automatically.
Request reminders: You’ll receive a dashboard reminder and an app push notification when a pending request has 15 minutes left, and again at 5 minutes.
Auto-accept: Short-notice requests are accepted automatically when Auto-accept is on, so only use both together when you’re ready to teach. You’ll be asked to confirm when selecting a short-notice window with Auto-accept on.
